Kesha’s fans are stupid but I didn’t realise they were THIS stupid

As stated above, Kesha’s fans are a bit stupid. Why? Well, let me tell you, oh curious nomad of the internet.

It all comes down to this guy:

240913This is Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, better known as Dr Luke. He’s a music producer who is a pretty big deal. His previous credits include writing Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Suck Without You, producing Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album and producing Ke$ha’s albums Warrior and Animal. But don’t take my word for it, let his credentials speak for themselves.

So why would Ke$ha’s fans be stupid because of him? Well, they believe that he has sapped all of Ke$ha’s (it’s a pain in the arse to type, just so you know) creativity and have ruined her career.  The fans have created an online petition in a bid to ‘free’ her from his evil, musical clutches.

Huh.

Apparently, she “didn’t have creative control over the record [the record in question is Warrior]” and was forced to sing Die Young as the lead single.

Hm.

Not that Die Young was fucking awesome or anything.

Okay, I can understand why the fans might be pissed off on Ke$ha’s behalf. She may have been pigeonholed creatively speaking, but this man, this god of modern pop music (he co-wrote and produced Marina and the Diamonds’ Primadonna for fuck’s sake) is being accused of ruining a woman’s career who wouldn’t have a career if it wasn’t for him in the first place. That’s just plain rude, if you ask me.

I don’t think she would have been creatively bottled as has been claimed. The fact is that she still co-wrote the album so she would have made a sizeable contribution. Additionally, the producers job is to help the musician’s ideas blossom and to realise them in the recorded environment. It appears that he would have acted as a catalyst for her ideas, not as a mean old musical dictator.

Either way, he signed her on for an eight album record deal at the age of 18, so he obviously wanted to work with her, not to control her. In the end, Dr Luke wants to make some damn fine music and he needs to find the best talent to do so. Ke$ha’s fans should truly appreciate what a blessing this man is to her career rather than claiming he’s the devil. I’m sure Ke$ha appreciates him and his work otherwise she wouldn’t have wanted to work with her in the first place.

I’m sick to death of hearing about producers “wronging” musicians. I might end up producing some other people’s work when I’m older, if I’m incredibly lucky and continue to work hard. The last thing I’d want to hear is that I’m ruining peoples’ careers and I’m sure that’s the same for any producer.

The question I would like to submit to Ke$ha’s fans is this: who should Ke$ha work with instead? Who would help her blossom as an artist and help her unleash her true creativity? I would genuinely like to know, as I’m totally up for hearing what her new material would sound like.

But anyway, unless Ke$ha makes it explicitly clear that she is so constrained as an artist to an extent which forces her to leave her comfortable position in pop royalty to express herself creatively, I think her fans need to back off. Let the poor woman get on with her carrer, she doesn’t need “support” from her fans. She needs to get her ass in the studio or on stage to do what she does best – delivering some fucking good pop tunes.

Such a classic. Uggggggggh.
